Dresden & Leipzig Trip 2025 - 21 September 2025
Under radiant late-summer skies, we began our day on September 21, 2025 at the Neustädter Ufer. From there, we enjoyed the famous Canaletto View of Dresden’s Old Town. This impressive panorama — which once inspired the painter Bernardo Bellotto, better known as Canaletto, to create his renowned painting — appeared particularly clear and photogenic that morning.
We then made our way to the Royal Palace (Residenzschloss) to visit its museums. The palace houses an impressive variety of exhibitions, including the Historic and New Green Vaults, the Turkish Chamber, the Print Cabinet, and other collections of great artistic and cultural significance.
It quickly became clear to us: anyone wishing, like we did, to visit all the museums should definitely plan plenty of time. From intricate artworks and splendid ceremonial pieces to fascinating insights into Saxon history, the sheer abundance of exhibits is overwhelming. Each room tells its own story, and behind every object lies a captivating background waiting to be discovered.
Thus, this day became an intensive, yet immensely rewarding, journey through centuries of Saxon art and culture — an experience that vividly showed us how rich Dresden is in historical treasures, and how wonderful it is to take the time to explore them.
